If you’re hosting this year’s Thanksgiving weekend, the combination of preparing meals and getting the house ready for overnight guests can be overwhelming. With just three more weeks to go till D-day, here’s how you can plan ahead so you can enjoy the festivities as well:
Deep clean your dining room
If you’re going to be bringing out the fancy china and silverware for Thanksgiving dinner, you’ll have a lot of prep work to do. Make sure that you have enough settings for your guests, and decide if you’ll be requiring extra seating. Polish your silverware, then iron and fold your linens and napkins if they’re wrinkled. Deep clean the room; wipe off dust from light fixtures, windows, the dining table, and chairs.

Gussy up the guest room
By this point, you should already know how many overnight guests you are expecting and can accommodate. Make sure you have enough places to sleep, even if it’s just air mattresses or sleeping bags for children. Freshen the beds and do a deep clean of the room, then check and sort out the linens. See to it that you have enough pillows, towels, and toiletries so you only have to do a quick touch-up prior to the guests’ arrival.

Prep your kitchen
Want things to run smoothly during your Thanksgiving cooking fest? Start off with an organized pantry and a clean refrigerator. This way, you’ll know exactly which ingredients you already have on hand and which ones you need to buy. Also, cleaning out the fridge in advance ensures that you’ll have plenty of room when you actually start your holiday cooking. If you’re planning a menu of dishes that you don’t usually make, see to it that you have all the necessary kitchen appliances and tools. You don’t want to be hurrying to the store at the last minute.
