At the end of a long day at work, it’s always a delight to come home and relax the very moment you enter. In most homes, the living room is one of the first areas seen upon entering, making it all the more important to design it to be as welcoming as possible.
The tough part is striking a balance between comfort and aesthetics. Some modern living room layouts might look impressive but end up lacking in comfort. While well-padded and upholstered furniture can provide a fair amount of comfort, they may seem out of place when you’re trying to upgrade your home’s style to something fresh and modern.
Let’s take a look at reclining sofas. They’re big, plush, and a great investment for the family that loves to sit down together to watch movies or play games in the living room. Or if you live alone, they’re also great for sharing with friends when they come over.
While different brands have come up with all sorts of designs for these comfortable sofas, they tend to be larger than ‘modern’ couches, which make them ideal for homes with a more traditional aesthetic. This can make them a little harder to work into contemporary interior designs and smaller spaces.
Despite their size, there are many ways to work these comfortable pieces into a contemporary living room. Throw pillows, for instance, are always a versatile accessory. On a solid-colored sofa, choosing pillow covers with prints can definitely break up the monotony and add depth to the arrangement. You can even make your own pillow covers to create a more modern look. Another method is to drape colored cloths over the center or side of the sofa when it’s not in use, which can serve to add more layers of texture and color.
The key to making a traditional-looking reclining sofa work well with a contemporary interior design is to turn it into a focal point. Keep the rest of the room simple so your eye goes right to the sofa as you step into your home, inviting you to a moment or two of relaxation after a long day.

With the customer service being so horrible at your Danville Va store, anything related to Schewels is scary indeed! After your workers loaded my new chair on my truck, without my help, then didn’t close the tailgate good, the chair fell out and was damaged. The store refuses to help us at all with the damage, and we only want the fabric repaired, not replaced. We won’t be spending another dime at any Schewels. All it would cost to satisfy us is to repair the fabric. Horrible service indeed. Randy Dowdy, 434-835-6538
