DIY Projects to Add Personality to Your Home

Do-it-yourself projects are always a great way to showcase a little more personality in your home. Not to mention that they’re something you can look back on with pride. Nothing’s more impressive to guests than a gorgeous flower arrangement you’ve done over the weekend or an antique wooden front door you’ve converted into a coffee table.

Although some might think of DIY as something a busy household can’t do, not all projects are big and fancy. Looking around the Internet, you can find a great deal of small projects that are perfect for seasonal décor. You can even make some just in time for small events like house parties. Even in small ways, you can showcase a little more personality than with store-bought home accessories. Not to mention that they’re cost-efficient, too. While professionally-made silk flowers will look very impressive, you can also make your own if you want a little more “shabby chic” in time for summer or fall. Here are a few other ideas to spark some inspiration:

Color it Up: You don’t need to be an art major to create artistic accents for your home. With just a clean canvas and some acrylic paint from the local craft store, you can pencil out simple patterns like diamonds and arrows then color them in. No need to frame it! Just hang it up on your wall to give any space some added texture.

Reviving the Old: Have some glass vases that have a pretty shape? Why not paint over them instead of trading them in for brand-new ones? You’ll save money while keeping that vase you still love.

Making Something New: If you have nothing old to revive, don’t fret! Making something new doesn’t have to be difficult. With simple, recycled materials such as cloth scraps or coffee cans, you can make all kinds of new home décor such as lanterns or even a new throw for your sofa.

Don’t forget, though, that good furniture is a must-have to complement your new DIY décor. Come on down to the Schewels shop closest to you if you think your home needs new pieces for the summer!
